I just ride for fun and there’s a kind of fun that suits my every mood. Cycling can be fast and exhilarating or slow and contemplative but what it always does is make me tune into both myself and my surroundings.
I pedal several thousand kilometers a year, but I don't track every kilometer. It's more important for me to look back on the experiences I've had than on numbers.
Exploring the wilds,
hungry for adventure.

To me, the bicycle is discovery. By helping me uncover things about myself—strengths, weaknesses, hopes and reservations—the bike has allowed me to discover the person I'd like to be, someone who doesn't let certain fears prevent me from chasing my ambitions. At the same time, I feel that the bicycle is perhaps the best tool we have for experiencing the world—for discovering new landscapes, cultures and people.
Riding a bike is empowering. It allows me to travel great distances completely under my own power with comparatively little effort. As a result, riding a bike a long way offers an opportunity for that magical experience that is at once hugely self-affirming and humbling.
For me, this happens in nearly any outdoor physical pursuit, whether it's running, riding, climbing, or skiing.
Touring offers an unparalleled way to deeply experience new-to-me landscapes.

For me, bikes are all I have ever known. They define me. They keep me sane and have taken me to some amazing places.
Riding bikes is so much more to me than distilling it into numbers and stats, so I don’t keep track of my distance. What will be is what will be.
